MAJ Joseph Skorupa


Major Joseph Skorupa 90, died peacefully at The Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol, Rhode Island on June 29, 2015. Joseph had formerly lived in Cranston, Rhode Island since 1950. He was the husband of Louise (Disano) Skorupa for 65 years. Joseph is survived by his sons Joseph Skorupa Jr. of Milford Massachusetts, Paul M. Skorupa of Exeter, Rhode Island and daughter Susan L. Skorupa of Cranston, Rhode Island. He is also survived by three grandchildren Nathan A. Skorupa of Hopedale, Massachusetts, Danielle Skorupa Brennan of Cranston, Rhode Island, Sheri Skorupa Kelley of Hamden Connecticut and one great granddaughter Annabella May Brennan.

He entered the Army of the United States on March 11, 1943 and served in the European Theater of Operations. He was discharged as a Sergeant on April 29, 1946.  He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation (Germany) Medal, , European, African and Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbons.  He joined Company D 16th Special Forces Group, RIARNG on October 21, 1962.  He completed the Basic Airborne Course, Ft Benning, GA in January 1963 at age 39.  He served as a B Team Commander.  He was discharged on March 14, 1970.
Joseph was a graduate of Bryant University in 1951

He is buried in The Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter Rhode Island.
