CPT David S. Follett

Captain David S. Follett, 82, beloved husband of Susan (Gavitt) Follett, of Beach St., Westerly, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 13, 2017.  Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Irvin D. and Murial H. Follett.

He was a graduate of URI Class of '57, Bachelor of Science, Animal Husbandry. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, Infantry, thru the ROTC program. In 1965 he was assigned as a Captain to Detachment B10, Company D, 16th SF Gp, RIARNG. He completed the Basic Airborne Course that same year.  During the next 8 years he served in Company D, 19th SF Gp and Company C, 5th Bn, 20th SF Gp, RIARNG.  He lost his commission in 1973; however, he was assigned to HHD, 6th SF Bn, 20th SF Gp as a Sergeant First Class.  He retired on 6Apr84.

Whether it be his profession, volunteerism, farming, or raising a family, David always gave more, expected less and did it with a great, memorable smile.

In addition to his wife, he leaves four daughters, Cheryl (Ron) Nelson of Lexington, SC, Robin Vizzacco (Mark Croce) of Coventry, Kimberly (John) Cushing of Westerly and Rebecca (Joseph) Cherenzia of N. Stonington; three step-sons, Richard Hagerman of Stonington, Daniel (Michelle) Hagerman of Pawcatuck, and Benjamin Carroll (Anne Barnhart) of Westerly; nineteen grandchildren; and a great grandchild. He was predeceased by his son David, Jr.

Burial with Full Military Honors was conducted at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
