Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Robert D. Antuono, age 79, of North Conway, NH, formerly of Glocester and Cranston, RI passed away in the early hours of April 25, 2017 with his wife Melinda by his side following a courageous battle with cancer. Bob was a Life Member of The Special Forces Association and a Charter member of its Chapter 48 here in Rhode Island. He had a long career in the RI Army National Guard. His Special Forces service was with Co D, 16th SF Gp, RIARNG. He had extensive service with several Military Police units. He was a member of the 115th MP Co. when the unit was called to Active Duty during the Viet Nam War. Bob volunteered to serve and was assigned as a Security Platoon Sergeant with the Americal Division in Chu Lai. In 1976, after 19 years of service and achieving the rank of Master Sergeant, he received a direct appointment as an officer with the rank of Captain. He continued his career and served in two MP Battalions and at the RIARNG State Headquarters. During Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, he served as the Chief of the Mobilization Readiness Division assisting activated units during deployment preparations. He had numerous awards to include the Parachutist Badge and Special Forces Tab. In addition to his wife Melinda, he is survived by his daughters Pamela and Amy and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Alice. He was also the father-in-law of the late Major (Ret) Timothy Rachiele. The funeral took place at the RI Veterans' cemetery with military honors on 29 April 2017.
